Patients receive standard peri-implantitis treatment. We collect small samples of saliva, peri-implant fluid and plaque before treatment and 3, 6 and 12 months after treatment. All samples are stored for laboratory analysis, and participation is completely voluntary.

- Implants with bleeding on probing and/or suppuration
- Probing depth >6mm AND radiograph bone loss >3mm from the implant platform (all three critera required)

- A current smoker, or has uncontrolled diabetes (HbA1c >6.5%)
- Taking long-term immunosuppressants or anti-inflammatories
- Has an active infectious disease
Unsure if a case qualifies? Refer anyway, we can assess the patient's eligbility.

Take a periapical radiograph if peri-implantitis is suspected, send a referral with medical history, implant history and current clinical findings.

- "You'll get the same standard treatment, but will have some saliva and implant fluid for research collected. It's completely voluntary."

Referred patients receive:
- Specialist care from a registered periodontist using the latest EFP guidelines
- Comprehensive monitoring at 3, 6 and 12 months
